VOLUNTEER WITH WAW
WAW relies upon a diverse batallion of volunteer members whose time and wide variety of skills are crucial to the continuation of WAW's mission. Volunteers contribute in many ways both locally and from afar by helping with event planning/coordination, fundraising, writing and editing projects, PR and advocacy, administrative tasks, and teaching ESL classes in Queens.
See below for job descriptions of some of our current needs.
U.S. CITIZENSHIP PROGRAM TEAM LEADER-WAW NY:
3 hours per week (Every Wednesday from 10am-1pm)
Provide English language instruction based on U.S. History and Civics to help students prepare for the United States Citizenship Exam. Prepare clients for the 3 major portions of their U. S. Citizenship Interview. Be aware of scheduled interview dates and pass/fails. Maintain orderly and up to date manuals and supplies. Create and apply standards and curriculum for greatest impact and measurement of progress. Due to the nature of this volunteer opportunity we are only able to accept female volunteers.
HOMEWORK HELP TEAM LEADER- WAW NY:
4-8 hours per week. 4-6pm Tuesday and Thursday evenings (2 day commitment not required).
Manage and direct tutors working with grade-school children of WAW clients and community. Create and maintain lesson plans and activities to supplement and assist children in mathematics and literacy.
CASE WORKER- WAW NY:
5 hours per week/flexible
Schedule appointments for welfare, medical assistance, court, immigration, etc for clients. Accompany clients to their appointments and assist them with communication. Maintain accurate case specific documentation on clients. Must be fluent in either Dari or Pashto as well as English. Due to the nature of this volunteer opportunity we are only able to accept female volunteers.
