VOLUNTEER WITH WAW
WAW relies upon a diverse batallion of volunteer members whose time and wide variety of skills are crucial to the continuation of WAW's mission. Volunteers contribute in many ways both locally and from afar by helping with event planning/coordination, fundraising, writing and editing projects, PR and advocacy, administrative tasks, and teaching ESL classes in Queens.
See below for job descriptions of some of our current needs.
Preschool Instructor- WAW NY
Every Thursday our Queens Community Center hosts workshops and empowerment classes. Many of the women have difficulty entertaining their preschool age children and participating in these workshops. Use your love of youngsters to facilitate these workshops by creating a caring and educational environment for young Afghan children while their mothers take time to care for themselves.
Due to the nature of this volunteer opportunity we are only able to accept female volunteers.
Homework Help Tutors- WAW NY
Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:00-6:00pm
You will be helping a child (1st-6th grade) to complete and understand their homework as well as reinforcing skills from their grade level. The majority of our clients are preliterate and unable to help their children complete homework. Become a tutor and help empower a family through education!
Sign on to our Volunteer list and let our volunteer coordinator (also a volunteer!) contact you to see how your contributions and skills can best match WAW's needs.
